TIMBERLAND

Partner Brand

Timberland is a recognized leader in improving the transparency of the leather industry.  By cofounding the Leather Working group in 2005 they helped to bring attention to and reduce the environmental impact of tanning.  Bringing attention to the source, the animals, and their impact on the environment was the logical next step, and OHP was there to help.

Who We Are

THIS IS OUR FAMILY BUSINESS

Meet Jim & Mark Kleinschmit, brothers raised on a family farm in Northeast Nebraska. Their parents were early sustainable and regenerative agriculture leaders. Other Half Processing is an extension of this family legacy. As a registered Specific Benefit Corporation (SBC) in Minnesota, OHP's stated mission is to support regenerative farming systems that prioritize the well-being of the livestock and those that care for them.

JIM KLEINSCHMIT

Founder & CEO

After leaving the farm, Jim initially focused on international studies and development, but farming lured him back, and he has now spent most of the last 25 years in the US agricultural policy and market sectors. During his time at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) and as an independent consultant, Jim developed extensive knowledge and relationships in the regenerative and organic farming and supply chain sectors. Based on this work and conversations with farmers/ranchers and processors, it became clear to Jim that there was a need and opportunity for a regenerative byproduct sector, so he decided to start Other Half Processing.

MARK KLEINSCHMIT

Co-Founder & CFO/COO

Mark, a co-founder, followed a different route from the farm, acquiring a Ph.D. in Physics before joining a Fortune 500 company. In 14 years, he worked in a range of roles including Marketing Director, Business Development Director, operations and Product Development, and gained an MBA along the way. He informally advised Jim in the early company development, and then jumped in as a co-founder when Other Half Processing was officially established.  As COO and CFO, Mark uses his background and expertise to guide operations and provide financial oversight.
